For Filmmakers

How to create and launch a market question

Before you begin, you'll need a Filmmaker Profile and an approved project.

Step 1: Create a Market Question

Access the Market Submission form through the dropdown menu via "Create Market" or "Manage Projects."

Step 2: Write a clear, verifiable question

Your question should be specific, easy to understand, and tied to a real outcome you can verify.

The submission form has three sections:

Project Details — Link to an approved project, select its stage, and write a featured description as an elevator pitch for the market.

Market Question & Media — Write your question and upload related visuals. Personalize the market page to engage fans.

Outcomes and Verification — Define how Story Inc. will verify the outcome and specify the market closing date. Example: "Filmmaker announces premiere location on official social channels."

Tips for great Market Questions

Timing

  • Short-term questions (1-3 months): maintain fan engagement during production
  • Long-term questions (6-12+ months): build anticipation for major milestones

Creative uses

Use markets to test story choices and audience reactions. Ask fans to predict:

  • Preferred endings or cuts
  • Audience response to trailers or casting decisions
  • Festival selections or platform pickups
  • Campaign engagement outcomes
  • Thematic or genre interpretations

Step 3: Submit for review

Click Submit. You can edit your question until it's approved. Once live, changes are locked until resolution.

Step 4: Go live and engage fans

Your approved market appears on your project page and the main Market page. Share the link and invite fans to participate.

Step 5: Resolve your market

Follow your verification plan. Story Inc. uses your verification to officially close and confirm results.
