Bertha Russell got everything she fought for. Her daughter is a duchess. Her ball rewrote the rules of who belongs in New York. Then her husband George, barely recovered from a gunman's bullet, looked at the life they had built and walked out. He could be ruthless in business, he told her, but not with the people he loves. Season 4 opens with Bertha hiding a marriage in trouble while she and George search for a way back to each other. Across the street, Agnes van Rhijn sees her chance to lead again. Marian sets out on a path of her own. And Peggy Scott, engaged to Dr. William Kirkland, has to win over a future mother-in-law who never wanted her.

Julian Fellowes has spent his career writing about families under one roof and the principles that hold them together. He won an Oscar for Gosford Park and two Emmys for Downton Abbey, a series that took home 12 Emmys in all. The Gilded Age is the American story he waited years to tell, and he has called writing it the fulfillment of a personal dream. HBO and Universal Television produce the series together. It was nominated for Outstanding Drama Series at the 2024 Emmys and has won an Emmy for its production design.
