The Odyssey is a mythic epic that reimagines Homer’s foundational work of Western literature as a modern cinematic spectacle. The film follows Odysseus, portrayed by Matt Damon, as he undertakes a dangerous, decade-long voyage back to Ithaca after the fall of Troy, confronting gods, monsters, and the limits of human endurance. Along his journey, Odysseus encounters some of mythology’s most enduring figures, including the Cyclops Polyphemus, the witch-goddess Circe, the Sirens, and the twin sea monsters Scylla and Charybdis. At home, his wife Penelope, played by Anne Hathaway, struggles to hold their kingdom together while resisting rival suitors, aided by their son Telemachus, portrayed by Tom Holland. Scheduled for release on July 17, 2026, the film represents one of Nolan’s most ambitious productions to date. Shot entirely on IMAX 70mm film cameras, The Odyssey was filmed across international locations including Greece, Morocco, and Italy, reinforcing its positioning as a premium-format, event-level summer blockbuster.
