Godzilla Minus One found its story in the rubble of postwar Japan: a pilot who survived when he was meant to die, and a country trying to stand back up. Minus Zero picks up in 1949, with Japan finally returning to ordinary life and a new threat arriving to take it away — Toho's own line is that there is no third time. Takashi Yamazaki writes, directs, and supervises the effects again, shooting across Japan, New Zealand, and Norway for the first Japanese film ever made for IMAX.
